One of them is the clock.
Jam Gadang is a clock tower located in the center of Bukittinggi City.
The Clock Tower Structure
This tower has clocks at the top of all four sides.
The Gadang Clock has a height of 27 meters and was inaugurated on July 25, 1927.
Meanwhile, the size of the Jam Gadang building is 6.5 x 6.5 meters, plus the base of the stairs with a width of 4 meters, so that the overall basic size of the building is 6.5 x 10.5 meters.
For the inside of the tower, it consists of five levels, with the top level as a pendulum storage area.
History of the Clock Tower
In 1925–1927 the Jam Gadang was built.
At the initiative of Hendrik Roelof Rookmaaker, controleur or city secretary of Fort de Kock (now City of Bukit Tinggi) during the reign of the Dutch East Indies.
Meanwhile, the clock that was installed was a gift from the Queen of the Netherlands, Wilhelmina.
Yazid Rajo Mangkuto, an architect from Koto Gadang, is in charge of the construction.
As executors of the construction, Haji Moran and foreman St. Ameh Teeth.
Aside from being an icon of the City of Bukittinggi, Jam Gadang is one of the centers of tourist areas in the City of Bukit Tinggi.
This is because from the Gadang clock you can visit other tourist attractions just by walking.
Such as the Bukittinggi Zoo, Japanese Pit and Pasar Atas and Pasar Bawah which are the largest shopping and culinary centers in Bukittinggi.
